Thanks again for joining us in this collective memorial. We want to remind you that we want to get as many photos up before 9/11. They will exist on our virtual memorial but we are also printing them for a physical exhibit in Asheville in North Carolina on Sunday. Please upload what you can today if you want your photo to be part of the exhibit opening and this date of remembrance on 9/11’s 10th year anniversary. The photos can continue to be uploaded after that as the memorial will continue to grow.
The uploading process is easy. Also, it is important if you join our dispersed memorial group on Panoramio as it will help us grow and get an official URL for the group. Here is the breakdown.
At the dispersed memorial site:
1) CLICK to join panoramio, 2) UPLOAD photos to your account, 3) MAP photos by geotagging them at the location where they were taken, 4) TITLE with the name of the person you shared the card with or with your name if there was no exchange, 5) CAPTION with a brief note about remembrance, 6) JOIN the dispersed memorial group * important, this will help us grow and get an official URL for the group, 7) CLICK to add photos to the dispersed memorial group
Thanks to ALL of our ambassadors for sharing the cards and initiating moments of remembrance! ‘memory cards’ are lighting a collective memorial nationwide. Do feel free to scroll through the blog to see the photos coming in from New York City, Asheville, Black Mountain, Charleston, Greenville, Washington D.C… and on the way San Francisco, Venice, Portland, Kansas, Texas, Boston and Tucson! Did I miss something?
The cards prompt and assemble a conversation about the memory of lost lives and changed skyline during the events of September 11, 2001. With each exchange of the card, a moment of remembrance is initiated and prompts a dispersed, collective conversation about the memory of loved ones lost or affected by the events of 9/11.
If your state is not represented and you want to participate, let us know. We will mail you a small and powerful package. send us a note

exhibit and remembrance space veiled until 9/11
Through a Constellation of Paper Cards and Pixels of Light, Dispersed Memorial, Prompts a Collective Exchange and Memorial For 9/11. Join us for an exhibit opening and remembrance on September 11.
‘memory cards’ which are being exchanged nationally prompt and assemble a conversation about the memory of lost lives and changed skyline during the events of September 11, 2001. At the exhibit, this emerging collective memorial will be unveiled. The concept for a later phase of the project will also be on display. Thousands of glass plates, inscribed with a written dedication to each victim and an outline of the missing skyline, will populate New York City from anywhere in the city that the towers would have been visible. The project will be assembled online through the thousands of contributions from victims’ loved ones and residents or visitors of New York City.
Our goal is to construct two conversing collective memorials, a virtual database of stories and images and the physical dispersed installation in the city. This year, which marks the 10th anniversary of the event, we invite you locally within Asheville to 5 Walnut or virtually from anywhere nationally or globally to our virtual memorial at www.dispersed-memorial.net
